   GI Choice has its office based at the Spire Southampton Hospital. We welcome referrals from any doctor. We will also see self referred patients, although it id generally preferable that you discuss your condition with your own doctor before referral if possible. If you have insurance you need to inform your insurer that you are about to see us so that they can authorise it.

GI choice is a team of surgeons, physicians and radiologists specialising in liver and gastrointestinal conditions based at the Spire Southampton Hospital.

What do we do?

Our areas of expertise include the whole of the gastrointestinal tract including problems of the stomach, intestine, pancreas, bile duct, gallbladder, liver, spleen and bowel.

Group Strengths

Conditions of the abdomen, gut and liver are complex and often require a multi disciplinary approach. As we work together and have complementary specialities we are able to provide a full package of care.

We work together closely both in the private sector at Spire and also in the NHS at University Hospitals Southampton where we run a highly rated tertiary referral service.

Our Services

We know that when a referral is made a solution is required. Our aim is to provide a single point of referral after which all the necessary consultations, investigations and treatment follow smoothly without the to-ing and fro-ing that is so often the case in healthcare.

Operations and Interventions

Based at Spire Southampton, we have the back up of a fully equipped modern hospital with onsite intensive care, CT and MRI scanners, interventional radiology and state of the art operating theatres. This means that our multidisciplinary team can safely perform complex surgery, endoscopy and interventional radiology if your case requires it.

Medicolegal

GI Choice offers expert opinion for medicolegal purposes. Total charges for the report will vary according to complexity, but in general most reports require 4-8 hours of preparation time. Please contact us to discuss your needs and we can prepare an estimate for you.

Second Opinions and Complex Case Advice

Being unwell can be confusing and bewildering. We work as a multidisciplinary team and are constantly faced with complex cases. We are happy to share our expertise and where necessary can arrange to see patients for further advice and management, perhaps for a second opinion or to continue your care. Patients are often given a huge amount of information which can make it difficult to make a decision. Sometimes a second opinion can provide reassurance, sometimes it can suggest a more acceptable plan of action.

Day Case Procedures

We provide a wide range of surgical, endoscopic and radiological services which can be completed in one day, allowing you to return to your own home to recover.

Outpatients

In addition to providing a comprehensive outpatient service covering all abdominal problems, we offer a number of specific services for rapid diagnosis of common conditions.

Inpatients

If your case is complex, or if you require surgery you will be accommodated in one of our large private rooms at Spire Southampton Hospital
