Professor Mark Wright
Consultant Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist
Professor Mark Wright has been a Consultant at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Spire Southampton since 2006. He specialises in all aspects of hepatology and gastroenterology, with particular expertise in viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, hepato-pancreatico-biliary medicine, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy, including ERCP. He is one of the most experienced ERCP practitioners in the UK.
Professor Wright graduated with honours from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, in 1994 and completed postgraduate training and a doctorate at Imperial College London. As Clinical Lead for Hepatology at UHS, he transformed the service by expanding the team, establishing new clinical pathways, and driving forward research initiatives.
He has held several national leadership roles, including Chair of the British Association for the Study of the Liver (End-of-Life Care SIG), and regional lead for HCV networks. He continues to play an active role in research and is an Honorary Professor at the University of Southampton.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys running (including the occasional marathon), mountain climbing, sailing, reading, and spending time with his family and their many pets.
