Dr Brian Stedman
Consultant Interventional Radiologist
Dr Brian Stedman is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at University Hospital Southampton, known internationally for his pioneering work in interventional oncology and image-guided therapies. He specialises in minimally invasive treatments for liver cancers and neuroendocrine tumours, and has led the development of several UK-first services in this field.
After qualifying from the Royal Free Hospital in 1994 with multiple distinctions and a first-class BSc in Molecular Medicine, Dr Stedman initially trained in surgery before
specialising in radiology. He was awarded the Gold Medal by the Royal College of Radiologists in his final exams and completed a fellowship in interventional oncology.
Dr Stedman was instrumental in establishing Southampton as the UK’s first IASIOS-accredited Centre of Excellence for interventional oncology. His innovations include introducing DEB-TACE, SIRT, and Delcath chemosaturation therapy for advanced liver tumours. He has served as Clinical Lead for both the interventional radiology and HPB/neuroendocrine cancer services and currently leads the Upper GI Cancer Network for Wessex.
He is also a passionate patient advocate and co-founder of PLANETS Cancer Charity, which has raised over £3 million for cancer support and services.
Outside of work, Dr Stedman enjoys sailing, cycling, and spending time with his family — often outdoors, ideally in the sunshine.
