Dr Trevor Smith

Consultant Gastroenterologist

Dr Trevor Smith is a senior Consultant Gastroenterologist at University Hospital Southampton. His clinical focus includes inflammatory bowel disease, clinical nutrition, and intestinal failure. He is an experienced endoscopist, regularly performing gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and flexible sigmoidoscopy.
Appointed as a Consultant in 2006, Dr Smith joined the team in Southampton in 2010, where he played a pivotal role in developing the region’s specialised nutrition and intestinal failure services. He is a nationally recognised leader in this field and served as the longest-standing President of the British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) from 2008 to 2013.
Dr Smith now holds several senior NHS leadership roles across the South of England, where he helps to shape the future of high-quality gastroenterology care.
